Who We Are

“Madison Hearing Aid Center has always been about putting the patient first, we offer expertise from our family to yours. Hearing loss or tinnitus isn’t an easy thing to have, it takes courage to come through our doors. We’re mindful of that with each new patient we meet. We take the time to be as understanding of each person’s unique challenges as humanly possible,” said Jim.

Hear Your Best - Madison Hearing Aid Center

Madison Hearing Aid Center is truly a locally owned family business that’s been part of the Madison area for over 65 years. It was opened by the Calabrese family in the 50’s. John Calabrese, Sr., and his wife Shirley started the business when hearing technology was in its infancy, and helped countless people hear.

Their son, John, grew up in the office and eventually took after his father, earning his trust to follow in his footsteps with hard work, a passion for people and integrity.  John very much enjoyed working with patients for several decades, and with his greeter Benny the Corgi, gained a local reputation for having a kind and caring way, going out of his way to help people hear.

A strong combination of Italian and Irish, he considered his patients family. The Madison area benefitted from his love of helping people hear and in 2020, he began to look for a person to continue his family’s legacy, someone who would continue the tradition of excellence in hearing care his family had cultivated over the years.

In the fall of 2021, another hearing expert who also grew up in his dad’s office, happened to be looking to expand his growing hearing healthcare practice. Meet Jim Lippold, HIS, MS. Throughout his teenage years, Jim could be found at every Badger Football home game, and his father is a Dr. of Audiology and former UW-Eau Claire professor. Jim followed in his footsteps and has been helping Wisconsinites hear for over 15 years. He worked with his father and eventually an ENT clinic where he was responsible for all their patient’s hearing evaluations and solutions.

In January of 2022, Jim, along with his wife Sara, became the new owners of Madison Hearing Aid Center, expanding the practice they have owned together for over ten years.

He is a speaker and educator on hearing loss, tinnitus, and hearing loss prevention. Jim and his dad were regulars on a weekly local radio show highlighting hearing issues and treatment.
